This specimen was lot 72431 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Pesos, 1947-Mo. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-66 Gold Shield. A blast white example with blazing mint luster radiating throughout." This coin was minted in Mexico City as the first year of a type struck 1947-48. It was the first silver coin larger than a peso struck since the independence centennial two pesos of 1921. The portrait of Aztec emperor Cuauhtémoc was reused on the fifty centavos of 1955-59 and 1964-83. Later issues of the fifties were smaller.
