Mexico 1920-Mo 2 centavos
The first specimen was lot 22379 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $112. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Centavos, 1920. struck, red and brown. UNCIRCULATED." This specimen is an example of a type struck 1905-41 at Mexico City. In 1905, the coinage was overhauled and all new types were introduced, including new one, five, ten, twenty and fifty centavos. This was the first two centavos issue since the failed copper-nickel experiment of 1882-83. This date is scarce, especially in nice condition. However, after its production ended in 1941, mint authorities did not see fit to introduce a replacement and none of the denomination have been struck since.
