Stack's Bowers 2021 NYINC sale, lot 24234
SB121-24234r.jpg

This specimen was lot 24234 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $4,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 10 Centavos, 1866/4 M. Mexico City Mint. Maximilian. PCGS MS-64 Gold Shield. A popular type with bold overdate. A lovely little coin with sharp strike detail throughout and strong orange to reddish toning colors in the fields. Overall a nearly Gem quality coin with excellent eye appeal." Altho this type was demonetized as soon as the Juaristas recaptured Mexico City, it is normally found quite worn, suggesting that it circulated for many years anyway. Overdates 1866/4 and 1866/5 are reported altho no 1865-M is known to exist.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.70 g, 0.903 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-386.1.
