This specimen was lot 72014 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1800-Mo FM. Mexico City Mint. Charles IV. PCGS Genuine--Chopmark, AU Details. Despite the noted chopmark, this example retains some original mint brilliance and is a presentable example of a less commonly encountered 4 Reales." This is one of a type struck 1792-1808 in Mexico City. Assayer FM is recorded for the years 1784-1801. The four reales is the scarcest of the colonial denominations and when found is usually in low grade. Harris[2] notes that Potosi mint four reales are about twice as common as Mexico City issues.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.896 fine silver, .390 troy oz ASW.
