Aureo sale 243, lot 806

This specimen was lot 806 in Aureo y Calicó sale 243 (Barcelona, April 2012), where it sold for 1,800 € (about US$2,719 including buyer's fees). The catalog[1] noted,

"1800. Carlos IV. México. FM. 8 escudos. Bellísima. Brillo original. Muy rara así. EBC+. (eight escudos of 1800, Mexico mint. Very nice, orignal luster, rare thus, choice extremely fine.)"

It is one of a series minted 1792-1808 during the reign of Charles IV. The date is common, assayer FM is recorded for 1784-1801.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold; this specimen: 27.01 grams.
