The first specimen was lot 22743 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $446.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1790-FM. Charles IV (1788-1808). NGC AU Details--Surface Hairlines. Transitional issue with the legend 'CAROLUS IIII' and the bust of Charles III. Exceptional quality for this normally well worn issue. Cleaned long ago, now with light attractive toning. Bold strike." It was minted 1790 only at the beginning of the reign of Charles IV while regular dies were being designed in Madrid. The date is common, assayer FM is recorded for 1784-1801.
