Morton & Eden sale 104, lot 248

This specimen was lot 248 in Morton & Eden sale 104 (London, November 2019), where it sold for £300 (about US$465 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Philip V (1724-1746), cob 4 reales, 1730 R, with clear date, mint and assayer's marks, very fine. Ex Pradeau Collection and Hendricks auction, lot 46." Cayón lists this date with assayer R or D whereas the SCWC mentions assayer R, F or G. This subtype was issued 1729-33 and was the last cob four reales from Mexico.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rather scarce.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.931 fine silver, this specimen 13.41 g.
