"MAINZ, ERZBISTUM. Lothar Friedrich von Metternich-Burscheid, 1673-1675. Gulden (60 Kreuzer) 1675, Mainz. Vorzüglich. (Germany, archbishopric of Mainz, Lothar Frederick of Metternich-Burscheid, gulden of 1675, Mainz mint. Extremely fine.)"

Lothar Friedrich von Metternich-Burscheid (1617-75) was the bishop of Speyer from 1652 to 1675 and succeeded Johann Philipp von Schönborn as archbishop of Mainz and bishop of Worms from 1673 to 1675. Pluralism was common in the seventeenth century. In the 1670's the gulden or two-thirds thaler became a very popular denomination and the archbishops of Mainz issued their share. This type was issued 1673-75.
