This specimen was lot 5170 in Goldberg sale 69 (Los Angeles, May, 2012), where it sold for $949. The catalog description [2] noted, "Liberia. 50 Cents, 1906-H. Laureate head left. Reverse: Value and date within wreath. NGC graded MS-63. The Judy Cahn Collection." This type is from a series struck in 1896 and 1906 by the Heaton mint for Liberia. Other denominations included one, two, ten and twenty-five cents. Altho denominated as a decimal coin, the weight standard is very close to that of a British florin.
Recorded mintage: 24,000 plus a few proofs.
Specification: 11.6 g, 0.925 fine silver.
