Liberia 1896-H 50 cents
This specimen was lot 34640 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $870. The catalog description[1] noted, "Liberia: Republic Proof 50 Cents 1896-H PR63 NGC, Heaton mint. A popular design bordering on rare in proof grades, this dove-gray specimen displays a lightly stippled and highly pleasing frosted finish to the liberty head while watery luster fills the fields." This type is from a series struck in 1896 and 1906 by the Heaton mint for Liberia. Other denominations included one, two, ten and twenty-five cents. Altho denominated as a decimal coin, the weight standard is very close to that of a British florin.
