Kempten 1547 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 1318 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$1,161 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Kempten, Stadt, 1/2 Taler 1547, Kempten. Mit Titel Karls V. Münzmeister W. Baumgartner. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Feine Patina. Exemplar der Auktion Hess Divo 319, Zürich, Oktober 2010, Los 2342. (Germany, city of Kempten, half thaler of 1547, Kempten mint, struck in the name of Charles V. Very Fine-Extremely Fine, Nicely toned.)"
The city was annexed to Bavaria in 1803. This type was struck 1543-49, some with two digit dates. Quarter and single thalers also exist.
