Mansfeld-Eigentliche-Hinterort (15)47 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 1324 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 700 CHF (about US$1,015 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Mansfeld, Grafschaft, Hinterortische Linie, Gebhard VII., Johann Georg I. und Peter Ernst I. 1547-1558. 1/2 Taler 1547, Eisleben. Der hl. Georg hinter dem unbehelmten Wappen. Rv. Zweifach behelmtes Wappen. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-FDC. Überdurchschnittlich gut ausgeprägt. Exemplar der Auktion WAG 49, Dortmund, Februar 2009, Los 604. (Germany, county of Mansfeld, Hinterort line, joint rule of Gebhard VII, John George and Peter Ernest, 1547-58, half thaler of 1547, Eisleben mint. Obverse: St. George over quartered arms; reverse: double helmeted arms. Rare in this condition, About Uncirculated, Extraordinarily well struck.)"
Mansfeld-Eigentliche-Hinterort was a county of utmost insignificance except for its silver mines which provided the material for an abundance of thalers. The Eigentliche-Hinterort line went extinct in 1666.
