Künker Auction 425, lot 2233

This specimen was lot 2233 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €3,600 (about US$5,098 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · MANSFELD-HINTERORTISCHE LINIE, GRAFSCHAFT Albrecht VII. allein, 1546-1554. Taler 1547, Eisleben. Prachtexemplar. Ungewöhnlich scharf ausgeprägt, winz. Kratzer, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, county of Mansfeld-Hinterort, Albert VII alone, 1546-54, thaler of 1547, Eisleben mint. Cabinet piece, unusually sharp, hairlines, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

Mansfeld-Eigenliche-Hinterort was a county of utmost insignificance except for its silver mines which provided the material for an abundance of thalers. It seems the various branches of the Mansfeld line all lived in Schloss Mansfeld but occupied different parts: Vorderort (outer castle), Mittelort (middle castle) and Hinterort (inner castle). This type was struck 1546-49. It comes with a four digit or two digit date, as here. The Hinterort line fell extinct in 1666.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: silver, this specimen 28,59 g.

Catalog reference: KM MB13, Dav-9532; Tornau 946 h.
