The coinage of Jordan began with the issue of bronze and copper-nickel coins in 1949. This type was struck for circulation 1978, 1981, 1984-85, 1989 and 1991. It was superseded by a ten piastres in 1992.

Recorded mintage: 5,000,000.

Specification: 12 g, copper-nickel, 30 mm diameter.
