Jordan H3064-33397r.jpg

This specimen was lot 33397 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "Hussein Ibn Talal silver Proof Piefort 3 Dinars AH 1401 (1981) PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC, London mint. A regal portrait of King Hussein graces the centers of one side on this elusive UNICEF issue, while two children gaze at the Palace of Culture on the other. Significantly more elusive than the estimated mintage in the Standard Catalog of World Coins suggests (2,050 pieces), this Gem--with a slightly golden tinge to its frosted rim, is certainly to be highly coveted by the seeker of perfection and the collector of world pieforts." This commemorative was issued for the United Nations "Year of the Child" in 1981. It accompanied a gold 60 dinars (KM 46). Like all silver and gold coins of Jordan, it was not issued for circulation. The coinage of Jordan began with the issue of bronze and copper-nickel coins in 1949.

Recorded mintage: 21,000 (KM 43) plus 2,050 pieforts (KM P1).

Specification: KM 43: 23.33 g, 0.925 fine silver, 38.61 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 43, KM-P1.
