This specimen was lot 1457 in Stephen Album sale 41 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2021), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES: Batavian Republic, AR rupee, Java, 1806-Z, last year of this type, choice VF-EF." This type was struck by the Dutch in 1804-08. Another variety exists, struck on a thick planchet. Java, the chief island of Indonesia, was occupied by the British 1811-16. After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Indonesia was returned to the Dutch but the English kept their colonies in Malaya, especially Singapore.
