The first specimen was lot 33387 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Meiji 20 Sen Year 9 (1876) MS66 NGC. The quintessential example of a radiant piece with full cartwheel flashes that follow the surfaces of the coin as it is rotated in hand. The highest graded example in the NGC census, this piece surely commands a premium bid. Type II with the character 'sen' disconnected."

The second specimen was lot 880 in Stephen Album sale 32 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2018), where it sold for $99.88. The catalog description[2] noted, "JAPAN: Meiji, 1868-1912, AR 20 sen, year 9 (1876), type 1 (not connected), PCGS graded MS63." This type was struck 1873-77, 1880, 1885-88, 1891-1910.

Recorded mintage: 9,200,892 (all varieties).

Specification: 5.39 g, 0.800 fine silver, 23.5 mm diameter.
