This specimen was lot 24133 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN. 20 Sen, Year 8 (1875). Mutsuhito (Meiji). PCGS MS-64 Gold Shield. Type II, later period. A well struck coin with pleasingly original surfaces and a mix of dark gray to russet toning." This twenty sen was struck for the Meiji emperor 1873-77, 1880, 1885-88, 1891-1905. This is a scarce date, further divided by "long ribbon" and "short ribbon" varieties, which varieties also occur on the issue of 1876.
