This specimen was lot 10556 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $494. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN. 20 Sen, Year 6 (1873). Type II, characters connected. Toned. NGC MS-63." Two varieties exist for the date, of which this is the rarer. This is a type II, marked by having the first character to the right of the dot connected; the type I shows this as two characters.
Recorded mintage: 6,214,284 (all varieties).
Specification: 5.39 g, 0.800 fine silver, 23.5 mm diameter.
