This specimen was lot 51224 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN. 2 Sen, Year 9 (1876). Osaka Mint. Mutsuhito (Meiji). PCGS MS-64 Brown Gold Shield. Quite radiant and shimmering, this enticing near-Gem features a strong strike and hues that range from electrified cobalt to an orange-magenta near the peripheries." This type was struck 1873-77. A slightly modified type, KM Y18.2, with a redesigned dragon and the weight reduced to 14.26 g, was struck 1877, 1880-84, 1892.

Recorded mintage: 25,817,570.

Specification: 14.3 g, bronze, 31.8 mm diameter.
