This type was struck at the Royal Mint 1999-2002 and 2005. Proofs exist for 2000 and 2002. It was the first issue of this denomination for circulation, which heretofore had been used for commemoratives. In January 2015, US$1 = 113 Jamaican dollars. As of December 2024, US$1 = 156 Jamaican dollars, giving this coin a face value of about 6 cents. A silver ten dollars (KM 196) was also struck in 2000 for the Olympcis. Wikipedia comments, "George William Gordon (c. 1820 – 23 October 1865) was a Jamaican businessman, magistrate and politician, one of two representatives to the Assembly from St. Thomas-in-the-East parish. He was a leading critic of the colonial government and the policies of Jamaican Governor Edward Eyre."
