Jean Elsen sale 158, lot 2054

This specimen was lot 2054 in Jean Elsen sale 158 (Brussels, March 2024), where it sold for €260 (about US$338 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIE, Royaume, Napoléon Ier (1804-1814), AR 5 lire, 1813 M, Milan. Hallebardes à pointes triangulaires. Petits coups. Légèrement patiné. presque Superbe. (Italy, Napoleonic kingdom, 1804-14, silver five lire of 1813, Milan mint, halberds with triangular points. Minor nicks, lightly toned, about Extremely Fine.)"

This coin was struck in Milan for Napoleon's kingdom of Italy which lasted 1804-1814. The five lire piece matched the French five francs and was struck in some numbers 1809-14 at Milan, Venice and Bologna.

Reported Mintage: 772,000.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, Ø37 mm, lettered edge.
