Sincona sale 11, lot 1691
Northern Italy in 1806

This specimen was lot 1691 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$2,476 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN Königreich Napoleone I. 1805-1814. 5 Lire 1814, Mailand. Prägeglanz. FDC. (kingdom of Italy, Napoleon I, 1805-14, five lire of 1814, Milan mint. Specimen strike, uncirculated.)"

This coin was struck in Milan for Napoleon's kingdom of Italy which lasted 1804-1814. The five lire piece matched the French five francs and was struck in some numbers 1807-14, tho the 1814 is a rare date. The silver five lire was also struck in Venice and Bologna.

Recorded mintage: 102,000.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, this specimen 24.98 g.
