Italy 1814-M 20 lire
This specimen was lot 558 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $1,452. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY, Regno d'Italia (Napoleonic). Napoleon I. 1805-1814. AV 20 Lire. Milano (Milan) mint; differenti: pomegranate and inverted cup. Luigi Manfredini, engraver general. Dated 1810 M. In NGC encapsulation graded AU 55. A very nice AU with luster. None graded higher. Very nice for the type and very scarce. Ex Goldberg 32 (20 September 2005), lot 3036." This coin was struck in Milan for Napoleon's kingdom of Italy which lasted 1804-1814. The twenty lira, which matched the French twenty francs in gold, was struck in some numbers 1808-14.
