Kingdom of Italy in 1806, from Putzger's Atlas

This specimen was lot 2543 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$599 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY | Königreich, Napoleone I. 1805-1814. 20 Lire 1813 M, Milano. Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1808 geändert [1813/08 overdate]. About extremely fine. Extraordinary condition." This coin was struck in Milan for Napoleon's kingdom of Italy which lasted 1804-1814. The twenty lire piece matched the French gold twenty francs and was struck in limited numbers 1808-14 at Milan. Its larger sister, the forty lire piece, is much more often encountered. The overdate featured here is not mentioned in the SCWC.

Recorded mintage: 39,000.

Specification: 6.45 g, 0.900 fine gold, .186 troy oz AGW, lettered edge. This specimen is 6.41 g.
