Kingdom of Italy in 1806, from Putzger's Atlas

This specimen was lot 3390 in Goldberg sale 78 (Los Angeles, January 2014), where it sold for $294. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italian States - Kingdom of Italy. 10 Centesimi, 1812-M. Napoleon I. Crowned N within wreath. Reverse: Value and date. Nice original mint luster. NGC graded MS-63." The issues of the Napoleonic kingdom of Italy were meant to match the French franc Germinal. Thus, the silver lira was 5 g, 0.900 fine silver, just like the French one franc. Ten centesimi were minted at Milan 1808-13 in considerable numbers but the billon coin was not popular.

Recorded mintage: 740,000.

Specification: 2 grams, .200 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-C4; Pagani-70.
