Iraq 1990 250 fils
This specimen was lot 862 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it sold for $282. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAQ: Republic, 250 fils, 1990/AH1410, only 11 examples known, PCGS graded Specimen-68, RR, ex King's Norton Mint Collection. Tied with finest graded example!" This is the final date of a type previously struck 1980-81. In 1991, Saddam Hussein embarked on his ill-fated attempt to invade and conquer Kuwait, whereupon economic sanctions would have limited his ability to contract with foreign mints for coinage. Besides this 250 fils, the SCWC reports a 50 fils (KM 128), a 5 dinars (KM 171) and a 10 dinars (KM 172) for 1990 but nothing thereafter.
