India 2010 100 rupees KM-418
This specimen was part of lot 2464 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), which did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA: Republic, 2-coin mint set, 2010(m), struck at the Mumbai Mint, commemorating 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Chidambaram Subramaniam (1910-2000), including 100 (silver) and 5 rupees, sealed in original booklet with paper sleeve; set of 2 coins." The new Rupee sign "₹" was adopted by the Government of India on 15 July 2010 and began appearing on notes and coins. The symbol had been "₨" heretofore. This type was struck at Hyderabad (star mintmark) and Mumbai (diamond or M). This set also included a five rupees (KM 377). As of July 2025, 100 rupees = US$1.166. Wikipedia comments, "Chidambaram Subramaniam was an Indian politician and independence activist. He served as Minister of Finance and Minister of Defence in the union cabinet. He later served as the Governor of Maharashtra. As the Minister for Food and Agriculture, he ushered the Indian Green Revolution, an era of self-sufficiency in food production along with M. S. Swaminathan, B. Sivaraman and Norman E. Borlaug."
