India 2011 5 rupees KM-393
This specimen was part of lot 2467 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), which did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA: Republic, 2-coin mint set, 2011(k), struck at the Kolkata Mint, commemorating 150th Anniversary of the Birth of Rabindranath Tagore (1861-2011), including 150 (silver) and 5 rupees, sealed in original booklet with paper sleeve; set of 2 coins." The new Rupee sign "₹" was adopted by the Government of India on 15 July 2010 and began appearing on notes and coins. The symbol had been "₨" heretofore. This type was struck at Kolkata, Hyderabad (star mintmark), Noida (annulet) and Mumbai (diamond). This set also included a 150 rupees (KM 416). As of July 2025, 5 rupees = US$0.058. Wikipedia comments,
"Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) was a Bengali polymath who worked as a poet, writer, playwright, composer, philosopher, social reformer, and painter of the Bengal Renaissance. He reshaped Bengali literature and music as well as Indian art with Contextual Modernism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was the author of the "profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful" poetry of Gitanjali. In 1913, Tagore became the first non-European to win a Nobel Prize in any category, and also the first lyricist to win the Nobel Prize in Literature."
