India 1947(c) pice
This specimen was lot 1158 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 27 (Winter Park, FL, May 2020), where it sold for $2,261. The catalog description[1] noted, "Calcutta, India (British), bronze original proof pice, George VI, 1947, very rare, PCGS PR65 RB, finest and only example in PCGS census. Full original luster vivid peacock toning in gold, magenta and teal, practically pristine, clearly finest known with none graded at NGC. PCGS #38543719. With original His Majesty's Mint paper envelope." This pice (one-fourth of an anna or 1/64 of a rupee) was struck in the final days of the British Raj. This type was struck 1943-47 at Bombay, Lahore and Calcutta and is common. Only the proofs are rare.
