This specimen was lot 33985 in Heritage sale 3098 (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "British India. George VI Prooflike Restrike 1/2 Rupee 1947-(b) PL65 NGC, Bombay mint. A luminous mirrored gem, fully untoned. Highly reflective, with only light wisps bounding the grade designation." This type was struck at Bombay 1946-47 and is the last of the denomination struck by the Raj. The regular issue is common but the proofs are rare. Half rupees were struck by the independent government 1950-56 but used a completely different design.

Recorded mintage: 62,724,000 plus proofs.
