India 1945-L pice
This pice (one-fourth of an anna or 1/64 of a rupee) was struck at the Lahore mint at the end of World War Two, in the final days of the British Raj. This date was issued from Bombay, Calcutta and Lahore. About 1.29 billion were minted 1943-47. This specimen was lot 1135 in Sedwick sale 25 (Winter Park, FL, May 2019), where it sold for $3,867.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lahore, India (British), original proof bronze pice, 1945-L, George VI, PCGS PR64BN, finest and only example in PCGS census. Choice strike and rainbow toning over luster (looks more like RB in our opinion), rare as an original proof (not a restrike) with original mint envelope, in our opinion prettier than the Pittman specimen in Baldwin's sale in 2013, numerically topped only by a PF 65 in the NGC census. (See note in lot 1132.) PCGS #36334459. With original His Majesty's Mint paper envelope."
Recorded mintage: 238,825,000.
Specification: 2 g, bronze.
