This specimen was lot 1428 in Ponterio sale 173 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $1,998. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 1/2 Pice Restrike, 1942. Calcutta Mint. NGC PL-63 RD. Ex: Sanjay Gandhi." Half pice were struck for George VI 1938-40 with this final issue in 1942. Half a pice was one-eighth of an anna or 1/128 of a rupee.
Recorded mintage: unknown but few.
