This specimen was lot 34266 in Heritage sale 3082 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "India: British India. George VI Proof Restrike 1/12 Anna 1942-(B) PR64 Red NGC, Bombay mint." The twelfth anna was 1/192th of a rupee and was the smallest denomination struck under the predecimal system. It was struck in moderate numbers throughout the Raj until 1942. The 1939 comes with small head and large head (shown here) varieties. The dot below the date marks this as a product of the Bombay mint, which was the sole producer 1941-42.
Recorded mintage: 6,124,000 plus restrikes.
