Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale, lot 74359

This specimen was lot 74359 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 1/4 Rupee, 1945-(B). Bombay Mint. George VI. NGC MS-62. Large 5 variety. This beautiful near-Choice example dazzles with a white luster that cartwheels and bounds light. A RARE variety that is sure to impress Indian or British colonial collectors." This type was struck at Bombay (shown here) and Lahore.

Recorded mintage: 181,648,000. small 5 is common, large 5 is rare.

Specification: 2.92 g, 0.500 fine silver, 19 mm diameter.
