Stack's Bowers 2022 ANA sale, lot 36167

This specimen was lot 36167 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 2 Annas, 1935-(C). Calcutta Mint. George V. PCGS MS-63." The two annas, originally a silver coin (KM 515) was switched to copper-nickel in 1918 and struck to this design until 1936. Similar two annas were struck for George VI until 1947. The administration also attempted to circulate copper-nickel four and eight annas but failed.

Recorded mintage: 12,344,000 from Calcutta plus 21,017,000 from Bombay.
