India 1835(m) 1/4 anna
This specimen was lot 32119 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, ""INDIA. British East India Company. 1/4 Anna, 1835-(M). Madras Presidency. William IV. NGC PROOF-64 Brown. An alluring Proof specimen, delivering sharp details, with clear refined rims, and a handsome glossiness." The quarter anna was 1/64 of a rupee. This type was struck in large quantities at Calcutta, Bombay and Madras. All the circulation strikes are dated 1835 but it is likely that it was struck until 1840 at least. Many varieties exist. The type is very common in worn condition and many have been salvaged from shipwrecks.
