Stack's Bowers 2025 NYINC sale, lot 38635

This specimen was lot 38635 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. British East India Company. 1/4 Rupee, 1835-(B). Bombay Mint. William IV. NGC MS-62." This type was struck at Bombay and Calcutta in numerous varieties with a frozen date until the introduction of the Victoria quarter rupee (KM 453) in 1840. It is not common in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: 5,760,000 at Bombay plus 9,842,000 at Calcutta.

Specification: 2.92 g, 0.917 fine silver, .086 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.
