This specimen was lot 31575 in Heritage sale 3107 (Chicago, May 2023), where it sold for $6,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "India: Hyderabad. Mir Mahbub Ali Khan II Proof 8 Annas AH 1323 Year 39 (1905) PR65 NGC, Hyderabad mint. Type 1. Reeded edge. Yet another unlisted date, denomination, and finish combination of Hyderabad origin whose brilliance is seemingly boundless. Highly stylized and enhanced by an aura of polychromatic pastel hues, fully complimenting the decidedly Gem appearances." The princely state of Hyderabad was one of the last absorbed into the Republic of India in 1948. It was also the largest state and residence of the last remnant of Mughal suzerainty in central India. This type was issued under Mir Mahbub Ali Khan year 38 only. This example, taken from a proof set, is of a date not struck for circulation.
