This specimen was lot 31570 in Heritage sale 3107 (Chicago, May 2023), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted,

"India: Hyderabad. Mir Mahbub Ali Khan II Proof Pai AH 1323 Year 39 (1905) PR64 Brown NGC, Hyderabad mint. The smallest denomination from an immensely rare Proof set being offered in this very auction, where no other instances in Proof have been offered in recent decades or submitted for certification. Also of note is the fact that this date is unlisted in Krause, potentially being struck as a one-off piece for presentation or a slightly later striking for similar purposes. Regardless, the rarity of this piece and all others associated with this set cannot be understated and remains desirable as such."

The princely state of Hyderabad was one of the last absorbed into the Republic of India in 1948. It was also the largest state and residence of the last remnant of Mughal suzerainty in central India. This type was issued under Mir Mahbub Ali Khan year 42 only. This example, taken from a proof set, is of a date not struck for circulation.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: bronze.

Catalog reference: KM Y34 (unlisted date).
