This specimen was lot 31572 in Heritage sale 3107 (Chicago, May 2023), where it sold for $4,560. The catalog description[1] noted,
"India: Hyderabad. Mir Mahbub Ali Khan II Proof 1/2 Anna AH 1323 Year 39/34 (1905) PR64 Brown NGC, Hyderabad mint. Another unlisted date and finish to this fascinating series, certified at the cusp of a Gem assignment and awash in notable flash as is expected from a Proof finish. A firm strike yields a nearly full expression of the devices throughout resulting in near-medallic features that project boldly towards the viewer, illuminating this fascinating overdate witnessed to the regnal year, furthering the intrigue of this piece."
The princely state of Hyderabad was one of the last absorbed into the Republic of India in 1948. It was also the largest state and residence of the last remnant of Mughal suzerainty in central India. This type was issued under Mir Mahbub Ali Khan years 38 thru 44 but not year 39. This example, taken from a proof set, is of a date not struck for circulation.
