This specimen was lot 31573 in Heritage sale 3107 (Chicago, May 2023), where it sold for $5,760. The catalog description[1] noted, "India: Hyderabad. Mir Mahbub Ali Khan II Proof 2 Annas AH 1323 Year 39 (1905) PR65 NGC, Hyderabad mint. Type 1. Plain edge. A full strike lends a complete and deep outline to the instantly recognizable Charminar Gate, elevated by reflectivity demanded from a Gem Proof strike. A date and denomination not known in the assigned finish and will garner substantial interest as such." The princely state of Hyderabad was one of the last absorbed into the Republic of India in 1948. It was also the largest state and residence of the last remnant of Mughal suzerainty in central India. This type was issued under Mir Mahbub Ali Khan for years 34 and 39. This type is not recorded in proof.
