Hupeh Province is located in east-central China. The mint was active from the early Manchu dynasty, and adapted for modern coin mintage in 1895. Altho the regime decreed the striking of one, five, ten and twenty cash in copper, the vast majority produced were ten cash.
The specimen shown was lot 60237 in Ponterio sale 162 (Hong Kong, August 2011), where it sold for $13,145. The catalog description[1] noted, “CHINA. Hupeh. 2 Cash, CD (1906). NGC MS-64 RB. Ex: The Frank Robinson Collection.”
Recorded mintage: 844,000.
