CNG Triton XXIX, lot 1027

This specimen was lot 1027 in CNG Triton XXIX (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $6,737.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY, Holy Roman Empire. Mátyás II. 1608-1619. AV Dukat. Körmöcbánya (Kremnica) mint. Dated 1616 KB. Mátyás standing right, holding scepter and globus cruciger / Madonna seated facing, holding scepter and infant Christ; crowned coat-of-arms below. In NGC encapsulation 8419875-009, graded AU 58." Altho Friedberg lumps the ducats of Matthias under Fr-81, the SCWC notes two types: KM 37 issued 1609-13 with robe closed and KM 42 issued 1613-20 with robe open. The Nagybanya mint also struck ducats in 1616 (KM 52) which are scarcer. Hungary was never part of the Empire, even while it was ruled by the Hapsburgs.
