Sincona sale 26, lot 4284

This specimen was lot 4284 in Sincona sale 26 (Zürich, October 2015), where it sold for 2,600 CHF (about US$3,212 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Matthias II. 1608-1619 Taler 1615. Kremnitz. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich. Exemplar mit feiner Patina. (kingdom of Hungary, Matthias II, 1608-19, thaler of 1615, Kremnitz mint. Scarce in this quality, extremely fine, with handsome patina.)"

The SCWC correctly catalogs this under Hungary, not Austria. Hungary in 1610 was partitioned between the Austrians and the Turks and was not part of the Empire. This type was struck 1613-17 and is rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver; this specimen is 28.55 g.
