This specimen was lot 25112 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $2,645. The catalog description[1] noted, "Rudolph II Taler 1590-KB, MS63 NGC, a choice specimen with well-struck design features and aged cabinet patina - very attractive and rare in this grade!" The Hapsburg ruler styled himself king of Hungary but actually ruled only a slice near the Austrian border, the remainder being divided between the Ottoman Turks and the prince of Transylvania. Davenport lists this type for 1578-1600 as Dav-8066 and 1601-08 as Dav-3013.
