This specimen was lot 4459 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €4,600 (about US$6,036 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Rudolf II. 1576-1612. Reichstaler 1585, NB, Nagybánya. RR Sauber ausgeprägtes Exemplar mit herrlicher Patina, min. Kratzer am Rand, vorzüglich. (Austria, Rudolf II, 1576-1612, thaler of 1585, Nagybánya mint. Very rare, superb patina, scratches on the rim, extremely fine.)"
The Hapsburg ruler styled himself king of Hungary but actually ruled only a slice near the Austrian border, the remainder being divided between the Ottoman Turks and the prince of Transylvania. Davenport lists this type for 1580, 1582, 1583 and 1585. It is much rarer than the product of the Kremnitz mint (Dav-8066).
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 29.00 g.
