This specimen was lot 13019 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $2,115. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Taler, 1583-KB. Kremnitz Mint. NGC MS-63. Rudolph II (1576-1612). Attractively toned." The Hapsburg ruler styled himself king of Hungary but actually ruled only a slice near the Austrian border, the remainder being divided between the Ottoman Turks and the prince of Transylvania. Davenport lists this type for 1578-1600 as Dav-8066 and 1601-08 as Dav-3013.
