This specimen was lot 24240 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $940. The catalog description[1] noted, "Maximilian II Taler 1574-KB Kremnitz, XF40 NGC, very attractive with medium gray patina. Scarce ruler. From The J.G. Collection." The Hapsburg ruler styled himself king of Hungary but actually ruled only a slice near the Austrian border, the remainder being divided between the Ottoman Turks and the prince of Transylvania.
