This specimen was lot 32287 in Heritage sale 3089 (Dallas, TX, January 2021), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "Austria. Maximilian II Taler 1573 XF45 NGC, Budweis mint. A piece whose quality far exceeds the implication of the assigned grade, with a bold and defined strike and charmingly deep patina. Scarce in so fine a quality." This type was struck 1573-77 at the Budweis mint in Bohemia, where we have filed this coin. Similar thalers were struck at Prague (Dav-8055), Kuttenberg (Dav-8056), Joachimsthal (Dav-8057), Kremnitz (Dav-8058, -8059) and Kaschau (Dav-8061).
